Our Next Board Leaders

Art Students League Board Member and Candidate for President Sandra Kamerman stands in front of the Manhattan skyline

Sandra Kamerman brings a rare blend of artistic, public relations, legal, and leadership expertise to the League. Sandra was instrumental in launching one of the first art galleries in New York’s Meatpacking District and went on to direct and curate galleries citywide. As a current Board of Control member, she has led fundraising initiatives and contributed to the League’s landmark 150th anniversary celebrations.

Sandra’s passion for art began early—visiting museums as a child and immersing herself in Paris’s vibrant art scene as a teenager. After retiring in 2019, she joined the Art Students League to study drawing and painting, finding in it both a creative outlet and a welcoming community of artists. She has studied at the League with instructors such as Michele Liebler, Brandon Soloff, Rick Piloco, and Mary Beth McKenzie. Sandra’s class work has earned her a red dot in the League student salons.

She currently serves on the board’s Development, Membership, and 150th Anniversary Committees, and, if elected President, will champion affordability, strengthen fundraising, and foster a culture that uplifts students, instructors, and the broader arts community.

Sandra proudly notes that her greatest inspiration comes from her two sons and grandsons, who continue to encourage her dedication to creativity and community. Sandra lives in Brooklyn with her partner, who is an accomplished Jazz drummer, composer, and music educator.

A multi-instrumentalist and avid traveler, Jon spent several years living in Spain, where he earned his master’s in international affairs and deepened his love for art and culture. As one of the League’s Vice Presidents, he will continue driving essential building renovations, ensuring financial sustainability, and strengthening the creative community that defines the League.
